Fans couldn’t resist jumping in when newly engaged Patton Oswalt and Meredith Salenger had their first public ‘fight’ on Twitter.

It all started when the 48-year-old comedian and actor replied to a tweet that stand-up comic Max Silvestri posted on Friday about Twitter’s funniest joke writers being the most ‘repulsive in person.’

Counting himself in that category, Patton replied with some scatological humor of a lurid sexual nature that pushed things just a little too far.

And his Harvard-educated fiancée did not approve. ‘Delete your account,’ Meredith, 47, shot back after seeing Patton’s lewd comment.

‘And disappoint my trolls?!? Never,’ Patton quickly replied.

Things escalated when fans started joining in on the social media site.

‘If this is how they flirt, imagine how they fight,’ wrote user Christian Jeffries.

‘Imagine the make-up sex! Only don’t, because that’s sort of creepy and I’m sorry I brought it up,’ wrote another user, HoosAGoodKitty, adding a scared faced emoji.

However, Meredith put paid to the notion that she and Patton were scrapping, tweeting: ‘We haven’t fought yet. and also… we aren’t married yet! So… no sex! Cuz that is sacrilege. @pattonoswalt is very very proper.’

Patton later responded to this with the equally risque: ‘How are you getting a WiFi signal in your Menstruation Hut?’
