This announcement follows a series of victories at this year’s Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil where the New Jersey native won silver on the balance beam and gold for the all-around women’s team.

Earlier this month, Laurie gushed to Us Weekly over the possibility of being linked to DWTS saying: ‘The thought of it sounds really cool.

‘We have the tour coming up, so we’ll see what goes on with that, but I love Dancing with the Stars, I watched it all the time when I was little.’

While rumors swirled around that gold medalist and Laurie’s teammate Simone Biles would be competing for the Mirrorball Trophy, she recently squashed any speculation of joining in the fall.

With the tour going on, the fall [season] will be very, very hard to attend, so I can’t do that one,” Biles told Extra on Tuesday.

‘I’m hoping for the spring [season],’ said the 19-year-old. ‘If they would allow me to do that – that would be awesome.’
