As a celebrity, he’s had to develop a thick skin when it comes to being called names.

But this time it was Leonardo DiCaprio himself who was behind the mud slinging, after he labelled himself a ‘douchebag.’

According to comic Kathy Griffin, the A-lister used the term when she teased him for ignoring her at a fancy party.

I am what I am: Leonardo DiCaprio, 42, admitted to Kathy Griffin, 56, that he was a ‘douchebag’ at the DGA awards in February, the comic said in her new book

Writing in her new book, Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-Ins, the 56-year-old said that the first time she crossed paths with Leo was at this year’s Directors Guild of America Awards, held February 6 in Los Angeles.

The My Life On The D-List personality said she wasn’t going to let the moment pass without meeting The Wolf Of Wall Street star – using entertainment legend Lily Tomlin as bait.

She wrote: ‘I stood up and said, “Don’t be a douchebag, Leo. Get off your f***ing phone and say hi to the great Lily Tomlin!”‘

But one try was not enough to capture the attention of the Titanic star, Griffin said.

On the bright side: Kathy did say that Leo, seen here with The Revenant director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, looked ‘gorgeous’ that evening

‘He either didn’t hear me or chose to ignore me. You decide,’ she said. ‘I repeated it until he finally turned his head, pulled his precious phone away, and kindly said hello to Lily,’ who Griffin affectionately referred to as her as her ‘winglesbian.’

The edgy comic continued, ‘I said again, “Jesus, Leo, don’t be such a douchebag.” He walked away and with an adorable smile said, “I am a douchebag.”

‘Touché, Leo.’

Name-calling aside, Griffin was complimentary of the actor’s looks, as she said, ‘He’s gorgeous, by the way.’

Passion for the cause: Leo was honored for his environmental documentary Before The Flood at the Hollywood Film Awards November 6

The new tome from the Emmy-winning pop culture observer is choc full of behind-the-scenes tales involving show business personalities, as Griffin reveals interesting anecdotes about how Jon Hamm and Ashton Kutcher were rude to her.

She also includes as a hilarious tale about an ‘epic exchange’ between an inebriated-and-starstruck Harry Styles and Tom Hanks, with the boy-bander doggedly asking the Academy Award-winner if he remembered being in Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan and other iconic films.

After Styles dashed off, according to Griffin, Hanks commented, ‘Sometimes I just want to deliver them to rehab myself.’

Celebrity Run-Ins is available in stores now.
